Congratulations on your new arrival!
Capturing those precious moments of your newborn is something that you will cherish for a lifetime.
Here are some tips to help you plan for a successful newborn photography session:
- Book in advance: It is important to book your session in advance, ideally during your pregnancy, to ensure availability and to plan for the best time to photograph your newborn.
- Timing: The best time to photograph your newborn is when they are between 4-18 days old, as they are still very sleepy and can be easily posed. Keep in mind that this time frame may vary depending on the baby's birth weight and health.
- Preparation: make sure your home is warm about 76. Your baby has been bathed and fed. Wrap in a warm blanket and a fresh clean diaper. It's ok if your baby poops and pees in it after. Have a bottle or binky available and extra diapers. I will change and take care of your baby.
- Location: Decide on the location of the shoot, whether it's in our studio or in the comfort of your own home. The location will be clean, warm, and quiet to keep your baby calm and comfortable.
- Props and outfits: Props, Wraps, Outfits, and backgrounds are provided. Consider using props and outfits that you love, but keep in mind that less is more. Personal items are highly encouraged. Simple, classic, and timeless props will result in beautiful and timeless photos.
- Feeding and sleeping: Plan to feed your baby right before the session, and have them in comfortable and warm clothing. If possible, keep your baby awake for a few hours before the session, so that they are more likely to sleep through it.
- Safety: Always prioritize the safety of your baby during the session. Masks are worn. Props and Wraps are sanitized regularly. 13 years of experience photographing newborns. Your baby's well-being and safety are our number one concern during the session
- Communication with Lindsey: Communicate your preferences and expectations with me before the session. Discuss the style, colors, and poses that you prefer to ensure that you get the results you want.
- Family Pictures: For family pictures, keep colors simple and coordinate you do not need to match. I will do the baby pictures first so you can rest or get ready for family pictures. I have included a style guide to help choose outfit ideas. In-home sessions are journalistic so pick a place like the living room, bed, window area, or a wall inside or outside as your backdrop. In Studio, sessions are done on a white or black cloth background.
- Extended family, ie: Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins are an additional fee, ask for more details.
Remember, the most important thing is to enjoy the experience and cherish the memories of your newborn. Best of luck with your photography session!
